About the role:
As a leader in their field, this business is a highly regarded national service provider within the rail industry. They have an excellent reputation offering a superior service to their clients across varies offerings including; in-field service, wagon and locomotive inspections, bogie refurbishment, as well as wagon commissioning and maintenance.  
Reporting into the Board of Directors, the position will see you fully responsible for driving the profitability, operations and future growth of the business. As a highly respected leader, you will also assume multi-site management providing, strategy, direction and operational excellence, as well as the continued dedication to safety management and culture.


The key responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning. This will include liaising with the Board and coordinating, managing and driving the operational objectives.
  • Developing the annual budget and running forecasts in conjunction with the Senior Leadership Team, as well as the Business Unit Managers.
  • Evaluate the use of capital equipment to ensure that it is performing as required, whilst also identifying any needs to invest in new equipment to futureproof the business with technology.
  • Ensure that the business is meeting all compliance commitments including ONRSR, OHS, ISO, Customer Quality and Engineering Standards.
  • Assist the General Manager of Business Development with tender preparation, and key customer accountant management.
  • Provide monthly reporting to the Board, detailing the financial position, upcoming revenue forecasts and client spend variations. In addition, you will also report on growth opportunities and ongoing contract performance.  
  • Provide ongoing leadership and direction to the business and the Unit Managers to ensure safety targets, business goals, profitability and operational excellence is achieved.  
  • Drive and manage all aspects of HR, including negotiating and implementing the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, overseeing new policies, whilst also managing IR and associate risks.
  • Identifying and mitigating any risks within the business and its operational sites.
 
Key to the success of this role is an individual that will live and  breathe the values of the business. The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong and proven experience working for an SME as an Executive General Manager within the rail industry.
  • Experience working for a business that has international Board members with competing expectations.
  • Strong track record in a similar role with a demonstrated contribution to success in strategic planning, business development; and managing associated projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver clear communication across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Expert project management skills including with the ability to plan, implement and follow-through on competing deadlines.
  • Effective implementation of change management programs.
  • Tertiary qualifications including an MBA, coupled with an Engineering discipline.
  • Flexibility to travel to Newcastle on a regular basis.
