The power of mindfulness is taking the world by storm. From the mouths of big Hollywood stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah Winfrey, mindfulness is a worldwide phenomenon making life-changing impacts on people’s lives.

Organisations and businesses around the globe are also reaping the remarkable benefits of mindfulness. With research linking practicing mindfulness with breakthroughs in production levels and overall staff positivity, it’s no surprise forward-thinking companies are embracing this approach to benefit staff.

As the Director of The Mindfulness Clinic, I am dedicated to helping individuals and businesses, such as Monica Clare Recruitment, benefit from this powerful practice that has changed me and hundreds of people that I have worked with over a ten year period.

When I think about putting mindfulness to work, I refer to the Henry David Thoreau quote suggesting how much potential we have, but when caught in autopilot it eludes us.

A common occurrence I have found amongst many people is this incessant need to ‘do’ and achieve efficiency and effectiveness, believing that once I get everything done, then I will feel calm, good, contented.

Many people believe that being more effective and focused will help you get things done. And that this will make them feel calm.

This approach not only does not work, it can also work against us.  Our relentless chasing is not sustainable; we end up exhausted, overwhelmed and feeling not good enough.

Mindfulness starts from within


Contentment is an inside job, this means we need to take ourselves on an inner journey and that is where mindfulness comes into play.

So when I trained the team at Monica Clare Recruitment about mindfulness in the workplace, it was critical to reiterate the importance of mindfulness being more than just a tool for productivity. It’s not just for the workplace. It’s a root construct for change, it changes the foundations of how we operate.

Mindfulness can help us to be more productive. However, it also helps us to reduce stress, depression and anxiety as well as increase kindness, gratitude and presence.

Prioritising mindfulness in the workplace


Cultivating mindfulness can often be described as a homecoming. It doesn’t require a great leap of faith. All it takes it careful and attentive observation.

In any work environment, it’s understandable that there are a lot of pressures and stresses. Which is why anything that takes up time can also contribute to that stress.

My goal for training with the Monica Clare Recruitment team was to ensure that having time for mindfulness is achievable.

A proper mindfulness program requires a commitment to daily practice. In fact, there is a direct correlation between experiencing the positive effects of mindfulness and the amount of time practiced.

It is not hard work, but it does require that you outsmart the mind enough to integrate time for practice in your daily life. Bring to your practice an attitude of curiosity, openness and vigour!

It was a real pleasure to be able to work with the team at Monica Clare Recruitment. The staff there really embraced the work-changing mindfulness techniques I shared with them. The vibrant work culture they have implemented elevates what I can bring to these sessions.

Clare and Monica have done a great job ensuring their staff are looking after all aspects of their wellbeing. It makes what I do even more rewarding. I can only hope these sessions can further inspire this positive team culture to flourish in this workplace and outside.
