09 Aug Nail These 3 Interview Tips to Land the Job You Want
Congratulations, you have a job interview!
You’ve made it past the first exciting stage of the recruitment process. All that stands between you and that job you want is the interview. And you’ve got to knock it out of the park!
Monica Clare Recruitment understands how frightening a job interview can be – we’ve played a part in plenty.
So we’ve pulled together our three top tips for acing interviews that will help you perform at your best and land the job you’ve been dreaming of.
1. Be prepared so you bring your A-game.
As the saying goes, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.
There is a lot you can do prior to your interview to increase your chance of success.
Firstly, your Recruitment Consultant will be able to give you an insider’s perspective into the job and company. They already have a good relationship with the hiring manager and are knowledgeable about the role.
At Monica Clare Recruitment, we spend the time to get to know a company inside and out, so the overview we can provide goes far beyond a job description.
Key areas your consultant can help you with are the challenges facing the organisation and therefore impacting the role.
For example, if the role is for a Project Manager (PM), your consultant will be able to provide a history of key projects, the challenges associated with delivering them and where the new PM’s focus should be to make future improvements.
This could give you vital information on how successful projects were delivered and how you can leave your mark on the business.
2. Get to know the people sitting across from you.
We couldn’t speak higher of the benefits of getting to know the people who will be interviewing you by doing your research.
While it’s beneficial to look at their LinkedIn profiles, this just provides a career background. What you really want is the insider’s scoop…which is where your Recruitment Consultant can come in.
Your consultant has established relationships with these people and will be able to discuss the best way to communicate and give you tips on the qualities they look for.
Our consultants will be able to give some insight into the business and interviewer’s management style, behaviours and team culture, as well as personality. These details will help when you are face-to-face with them during your interview.
3. Don’t sit there like a stunned mullet during question time.
The last thing to research is what questions you are going to ask during your interview.
To present yourself at your best, note down some questions beforehand that are position and organisation based. This is not the time to ask about salary or additional annual leave entitlements!
Great questions can be technical, such as the software or programs used.
Other good questions to ask are why was the role created? Is it a new position or replacement? Are there opportunities for career growth?
Remember, the interview may be the last step between you and your dream job. Do your research and speak with your Recruitment Consultant to gain as much information as possible so you are prepared!
