Newcastle local returns to his roots after international success
After taking his extensive sales experience and knowledge global, Scott Donovan has returned to his roots in Newcastle and found his professional ‘home’ with the Monica Clare Recruitment team.
Scott joins us as our Head of Talent and Client Partnerships. His sights are set on playing a big part in the local community and finding new, exciting ways to propel the company forward now and into the future.
Globe-trotting up the corporate ladder
Scott started his sales career overseas in the Netherlands, where he quickly scaled the corporate ladder and finessed his sales acumen.
Getting quickly picked up by UBM in 2011, Scott went on to lead an extensive portfolio of pharmaceutical clients across Europe.
As a result, Scott had the opportunity to add a few stamps to the passport. His work took him to Jakarta, the Middle East, China, Istanbul and then New York.
After seven years in this position, Scott relocated to the ‘Big Apple’. It was in New York that he launched one of UBM’s most successful pharmaceutical portfolios in Northern America.
The call to the surf
Whilst he recalls the opportunity to travel and be part of some amazing portfolios as exciting, the need for a change was on the horizon.
With his wife by his side, Scott was ready to put a halt on the globetrotting. His set his sights on building solid foundations in a place they both had fond memories of.
“We wanted to come back to where we are from. I feel like Newcastle is such a good mixture of what you would like to have in a city. It doesn’t have the congestion and it doesn’t have the problems or logistical nightmares that larger cities have. Newastle has the benefits that you’d expect from a city,” Scott said.
He felt the call to Newcastle. All that was left was to find a role that offered the perfect fit.
Luckily for us, Scott has already established a business relationship with our very own Clare Ferguson. He investigated the opportunities and leaders in Newcastle and discovered Monica Clare Recruitment was something he wanted to be a part of.
This led Scott to give Clare a call to discuss a potential spot for him. With a proven sales record and his charismatic attitude towards business growth, Monica and Clare quickly saw Scott’s potential and welcomed him to the team.
The rest, as we know it, is history.
“Monica and Clare have created such a great, vibrant culture here. I’ve really jumped on board the Monica Clare train here,” Scott recalls of his first week.
The keys to success start with culture and strong relationships
Scott said that the path to taking the business to new heights starts with culture and building strong relationships.
“To actually find talent within the local community and then match that with an organisation where there is a true connection and a desire to not only build a relationship but to understand that talent and company culture is what actually grows a business,” Scott said.
Moving into the future, Scott aims to continually emphasise the culture of Monica Clare Recruitment through events and enterprise/client partnerships.
“First of all, we’d like to host more intimate events, whether they are in-house or partnering with organisations. We really want to move the needle in that area,” Scott explains.
Outside of work, you’ll find Scott at the beach with his two dogs, Winston and Frankie, and his wonderful wife.
We think they are making up for lost time in the sun – and we don’t blame them.
“I’m really excited to be back in Newcastle and to be getting back in amongst the community. It has been rewarding so far. Everyone is super nice and receptive here,” Scott said.
